Someone Thinks My Blog is Sweet

I got a wonderful surprise this week from Katie of Chicken Noodle Gravy. Doesn’t the name alone make you hungry?  She passed on the Incredibly Sweet Blog Award to me. Katie is one of my newer blog friends. She writes about food and her live. I have been learning about grits and biscuits and other southern things. I was sucked in from the name of her blog alone. Stop by and visit if you get a chance.  This award is such a pretty one. I love the image, it makes me smile.  Thank you Katie! You rock.

As with most awards I get to share five random facts about me. Because it’s all about me. Then pass the award on to five other bloggers.

1)When we go to sleep we listen to Coast to Coast AM on the radio. It’s a radio show hosted by George Noory that deals with UFO’s, ghosts, conspiracy theories and so on. The people who call in range from knowledgeable to wack jobs. I appreciate how George is always so patient with everyone. My favorite type of episodes are the ghost story ones.

2)I collect vintage cookbooks and vintage yearbooks. I love cook books from the 40′s and earlier. One of my most treasured cookbook is a reprint of my old church’s cookbook. It had many of my Grandma’s and Great Aunties recipes. My Auntie Jack made me cry when she found a reprint and sent it to me
I have yearbooks from my high school from the 20′s and up. I was amazed to find out that my high school used to have an old minstrel show, complete with black face. They had stopped many years before I started going there.

3)The voyeur in me loves some reality shows. I’m excited Sister Wives is back on TLC. I think its interesting to learn about their lives. I personally would not be able to live like that. I’m not a good sharer bee. Good for the Browns for making it work. Mr. Bernie is not as impressed, but he will watch it with me. I also love the show Hoarders. Every time we watch it, I’m thankful for the house we have now. We are not clean freaks by any means, but we don’t live like that.  Survivor and The Amazing Race are on our DVR as well.

4)I Most people listen to their Ipod for the latest and greatest music. Not me, I’m in it for the Old Radio shows. I love shows like “Our Miss Brooks” or “The Saint” There is an app called Radio Spirits that I really enjoy. Each day it plays two new shows. For example it might be a comedy show and a talk show. I have found the best new to me shows via that app. I listen when I’m making stamps at work and cards at home.

5)I first started blogging 2009  as a co-host for Lemon Tree Cards Blog. My friend, Shelley asked me if I would write humor pieces for her blog for a year. Which I did and so enjoyed. As a Thank you she made our Wedding invites. How cool is that? Check out her card site for cool custom cards. When the year was up I was nervous about starting my own blog. I didn’t think anyone other than my friends and family would read it. Then I learned about blog hops and going to comment on other peoples blogs. I don’t have quite the following that some blogs do, but I’m thrilled for the following I do have. I have made such great blogging buddies during this time. I’m learning as I go and so appreciate you all.

The second part of the award is to pass this along to five other bloggers. I read so many great blogs that its hard to narrow it down to five.

My Left Over Life
The Soapbox
Living on Less
Feeling Beachie
It’s Just Life

Have a wonderful Saturday everyone!

  1. I love me some Coast2Coast. I even have a few old Art Bell episodes on mp3 around here.

My hubby always gives me the look for watching Hoarders. I can't help it, it makes me want to get up and power clean the house!

Congrats on your award, you totally deserve it. Your blog is great!!

    • We have the Art Bell with the priest who was involved in the Amityville horror. I have no idea where we put it.

      Thank you so much.

  2. Congratulaions, honey! It's a really sweet award :-)

I'm not a TV watcher, but I'm partial to some reality TV viewing. Do you have 'I'm a Celebrity. Get Me Out of Here!'? I lurve watching them all trying to cope in the jungle as fake tans fade and their false eyelashes fall off down the dunny! :-D

Oooh! Gh-gh-gh-ost stories! Isn't that a bit scary for bedtime? Mind you, I guess it's a good as any reason for snuggling up under the duvet!

  3. Hi there, thanks for stopping by over at What Would Jen Do

I also love old cookbooks, my grandma sent me one of hers from the 50′s, I love the recipes in there, so easy and make a lot of sense.

  4. Congrats, Bernie. Isn’t this a sweet picture. I just got one from Irene and I love it. “Our Miss Brooks.” A favorite, but of course it was modern when I watched it. Where do you watch it now? Is it on re-runs. I’ve been watching Cheers re-runs or isn’t that old enough?
Something funny…… I’ve been having trouble getting to your blog, don’t know why but then I realized when you gave me the “Stylish award” I had put your URL under it so DUH….. all I have to do is click on the award. (I’m slapping my forehead with the palm of my hand).
PS. Just discovered the wrong URL was listed on website and it came up error…. I changed it.

    • THank you. Yes,I love the picture on this award as well.
Its the old radio shows Im listening to. Not the actual tv.
I’m glad you were able to find your way back!

  5. Congratulations on your award! I'm not a collector of old books or a watcher of reality shows, but I do love Sister Wives. Weird, huh? Not that I could ever do what they do, but I get it.

    • Thank you. I'm with you. I get the whole big family thing as well. Would never be able to do it myself.

  6. I HAVE to find Coast to Coast here, they have some fun stuff on and I haven't listened to it since I was in High School, I didn't even know it was still on the air! I, like Mr. B am not sold on Sister Wives, too out there for me. I do love my compitition shows though, Top Chef and Project Runway ~ Kinda reality. ;)

  7. Sweeeeeeeeeeet :) xx

  8. Thanks so much for passing the award along to me. I'm truly honoured.

I LOVE cookbooks too. I have a fourth or fifth edition Fanny Farmer that I got from my mother in law that is my all time favourite. Many of my own recipes have been adapted from this source.

Old books in general are really cool. :D

  9. Yay! I was happy to pass the award along to you, Bernie. I’m relatively new to this blogging thing, and your blog has served as inspiration for me as well as just a great place to visit everyday for a laugh and a smile.

I’m also a reality tv junkie. In fact, I’m half-watching Teen Mom 2 as I type. Hoarders is one of my favorites as well.

  10. Congratulations, Bernie! You so deserve this award because of the sweet, and humorous, thoughts and stories you share with us lucky readers.

Keep blogging away, my dear. You definitely have a fan club and I'm in.

  11. Bernie,
Thanks so much for passing the award along to me!!! I agree with a lot of what you said! I started my blog when we moved to Australia as a way to let the family know what was going on–that was waaaaayyy back in 2008 so my archives are all about Australia then!!! Then I got hooked. It is a good creative outlet and and even though I don’t have a zillion followers I have a lot of loyal ones who make great comments and have become great friends–like you!! Thanks again! Have a great weekend!

    • Oh, I will have to dig in the archives I didn't know you lived in Australia!
I feel the same way, I may not have a zillion followers like some gals, but I love the ones I have.

  12. Thanks so much for the award Bernie. The radio show you listen to at night sounds like so much fun. I fall asleep to Criminal Minds most nights…. I am in the minority, but I have never gotten into reality TV. I have no desire to watch it. However, a few weeks ago I met Teresa from the real housewives of NJ and I faked knowing about the show. I could have won an Emmy for my acting!

    • You are welcome. If you click the link it will show you what station the show plays in your area.
Oh, you met a Real Houswife? I would have loved to see how tyou faked hat one.

  13. Oh, now that I know you collect vintage cookbooks and yearbooks, I’ll be on the look out! I come across those things quite frequently!

Also, stampin’ stuff! Be prepared for goodies coming to your door!

Thank you for the award! I’m honored!

    • Oh, for fun!! Thank you.
I was glad to finally be able to pass and award on to you. We run in the same circles, so we seem to get the same awards at the same time.
