I Went on an Adventure!

Back in April, I made a post about The Biggest Loser.  I thought it would be fun to try out and so on and so forth. At the time, I really didn't know if I would go to a casting call or not. I was pretty sure I would send in a video. Actually, traveling to stand in line with a gazilion other hopefuls was not something I entertained.  Hanging around in the heat and sweating with a bunch of other fat people didn't sound appealing at all. I started following the Biggest Loser Casting Facebook page. Reading questions about the casting process. Reading some pretty amazing answers to questions.  Slowly,I started to make friends on there. I started to check the page more often.  I really enjoyed most of the folks on the board. Some I started to look forward to their replies to questions.  It seemed like a nice community of like-minded people. No judgements being passed and strong sense of community.  The more I read the boards, the more I wanted to meet these people. Which meant I really … [Read more...]

A Club We Don’t Want to Belong To

Last week I posted several messages on my Facebook about wanting a "do over" week.  As the week went by, it seemed as if news in my life got more and more depressing. I wasn't able to share the biggest part; it wasn't my place to tell yet. Now that Michele has had a chance to tell her news, I feel as if I can share. She said it was ok. So there. My friend Michele from Living on Less is the type of gal who should have Web M.D. locked off of her computer. I love Michele, but even she says that it's not a good site for her. She has almost everything that she reads. Even if she doesn't have a prostate. Michele found a lump in her breast. She has a history of cancer in her family, so understandably she was a bit anxious. She had a mammogram, then an ultrasound and finally a needle biopsy all in the same day. After her appointment she called me. I think the only joy she had that day was giving me the details of her biopsy and hearing me go ewww, ewwww.  She said, "You are making the … [Read more...]

Imaginary Friends

My friend Whitney and I have an interesting and complex relationship. We’re like night and day, opposite in just about every way you can think of. We fight all the time, arguing over significant things and insignificant things, things that matter and things that don’t. Sometimes we’re playful, and sometimes we’re serious. And I love her like a sister. In fact, she might as well be my sister. We had one of our playful yet serious arguments yesterday when I brought up this very guest post. It went a little something like this: “When I get home this afternoon, I need to work on a guest post for my friend Bernie’s blog.” Whitney cocked her head at me. “Your friend Bernie?” “Yes, my friend Bernie.” “Online friends aren’t real friends.” To which I replied: “Well, they certainly aren’t imaginary if that’s what you’re implying.” Her nostrils flared a bit, signifying that she was starting to get into the debate. “Katie, they aren’t real friends, and you don’t really … [Read more...]

Doing good

A fellow blogger recently sent me an email with the quote that made me think of Bernie, “Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.” John Wesley While Bernie is away she asked a few of us fellow bloggers to fill in for her. I agreed to do this in a heartbeat because it was a way for me to give back to her in a small way. I will start by saying this, I am blessed, we do not want for anything, but without a friend like Bernie my life would be somehow less; less fun, less caring, less interesting, she is the type of person that sees a need and tries to take care of it in any way she can. As a friend she is always there to hear my woes and offer her support, as a fellow blogger she is always mindful of the needs of others. I could give you so many examples, here are just a few;  one fellow blogger wrote about a cake cook book that they loved as … [Read more...]

There is a New Blog Hop in Town

My friend, Michele, from Living on Less used to do a Monday blog hop. That hop has been suspended for a while so she decided to start her own hop? How exciting is that? I'm so proud of her. She is going to have "Make a Friend Monday". Each Monday she is going to feature a blogger and add their button to the first post in her hop. She thought it would be a great way for new bloggers to meet.  We're Not Mommy Blogs is her first featured blog!! Michele asks the blogger five questions and posts their answers. She was laughing when she read the answers Katie and I gave her. Katie is very concise and I'm all over the place. It should give you a chuckle for your Monday morning. The fact that our writing styles can be so different really seems to work for us.  You might find out something you didn't know about us. Exciting! As Katie said, "We are now famous" *lol* So hop on over to Michele's blog and link up your blog to for Make a New Friend Monday. I'm hoping that she gets … [Read more...]

Talk About Lazy

My family and friend's had a wedding shower for me in July. While I was home during that time, Michele, Jenny and I went to have a spa day. We had our toes done. I'm not a big one for having my scaly feet played with. I'm always afraid that my heels will cut someone when they are trying to soften them up. I would hate to have the spa girl suddenly bleed due to my feet cutting her. I got over it and we went.   Jenny is really good about taking care of her feet. She used to be a Body Shop pimp so she is into the scrubs and lotions and so on. Michele and I aren't so good about that. Though Michele's feet can't be used as a lethal weapon. Somehow her feet are soft. Then of course we have me whose feet should be registered as a weapon in some states. We all got settled into our cushy chairs and took off our shoes. Jenny scolded me about my feet. She didn't feel as if Michele needed the same type of scolding. The pedicure gals came in and sat before us. When you … [Read more...]
