Its Going To Be a Long Day!

First I would like to apologize for the new post alerts. I’m still learning what WordPress can do. While I was going merrily along my way, I didn’t realize that it would send an alert out to everyone. The second time I did it, I unchecked the “annoy everyone and send it a second time switch.” However, it ignored me and sent it out anyway. Sorry about that. It won’t happen again. Unless my hair is on fire or I’m in jail and need bail, you should only get one notification a day.

I have sleep apnea, which means I snore LOUDLY and also stop breathing while I sleep. I use a c-pap machine which pushes air through my nose to keep my airway open. The picture is of my headgear that I wear at night. I know its sexy. You all want one, but nope, its mine.

Last night was a long night. I was sleeping peacefully when suddenly my c-pap machine stopped working. I can always tell when it is shut off because I gasp like a fish for air. My first thought was that one of the cats did it. They have been known to shut it off before. I started thumping the button on my machine to turn it back on and nothing.  I sat up and looked around everything was quiet. I looked at the alarm clock and it was black. Our power was off. Well crapcicles!

I laid in bed wrestling with the thought of trying to lay in bed and go back to sleep. Then I looked at Mr. Bernie and realized I had to go sleep on the couch. When I’m not wearing my cpap, I snore like a freight train. Its bad. It wakes ME up. Mr. B doesn’t mind the snoring, but I also stop breathing. That part he has an issue with. He told me that if I snored in a rhythm, he could sleep through it.  He was in the Army and used to guys snoring. I doubt any of them were snuggled up next to his ear while they were snoring. The Mr. thinks that my not breathing and than gasping as if I had been underwater for hours is disturbing.

Being the good wife, I grabbed my pillow and waddled out to the living room. I had just got my blanket pulled up and comfy. All of a sudden Capt. Luke hopped up and started to use me for a trampoline. I tossed him off. Scoobie, our dog, needed to check on me. That meant a cold wet nose on my forehead. Just as I finally fell asleep the Mr. came out to wake me up to go to bed. The power was back on. The sound of my c-pap machine being on without it being muffled by me wearing my mask, sounds like a 747 idling. So I grabbed my pillow and toddled behind him like a baby duck. Climbed back into bed and slept my remaining hour or two.

It was a long night. So far everything is annoying me, due to being tired and cranky. It should be a great day!

  1. Love my Cpap. I know that awful feeling when the cpap stops working . Hope today was better.

  2. My dad has sleep apnea and uses a machine like that…I’m glad you got it working again…it really is dangerous to sleep without it….I’m following you on GFC now…found you through the mid week mingle blog hop :)

    • Thank you for stopping by. I will have to check out your site later tonight. Thank you for being a follower.

  3. “Well crapcicles!”

    Ooooo. New vernacular. :)

Indeed. Cpap machines are mighty important to restful sleep. Hopefully no other power outages lurk to mess a night up.

  4. LOL, looks like you guys should look at a generator back out for that thing so you both can sleep. ;) Hope your day went well though!

    • We have joked about getting one. I can’t go camping because I couldn’t breathe. So one day we just might.

  5. I really think that I might need one of those machines. I snore and gasp too. I would also consider the noise from it pay back for listening to hubby snore over the past 22 years.

Hope you get a bit more rest in.

    • Get your Dr. to refer you to a pulmonagiost. . It was the best thing I ever did, having a sleep study and getting my cpap.

  6. That must be really tough sleeping with one of those things. When I don’t get enough sleep I’m useless the next day. It’s the worst! I hope you get some rest tonight!

  7. Poor you! Mind you, it’s a perfect excuse for having a cosy afternoon nap!

  8. Ugh, I hate nights like that….that interrupted sleep, just nodding off only to be awaken, nodding off again and it’s time to get up. Hopefully, you’ll get a good nights rest tonight.

    • No such luck. Between the dog and the cat I was up a lot. Cat is sleeping out of the bedroom again tonight.

  9. I had the worst 2 months of my sleep when hubby got his cpap. I had learned to wake up if I did not hear him snore since it meant that he was not breathing. Well, with the cpap there was no snoring so I was constantly waking up to make sure he was still breathing. Now I have Oreo who snores like a freight train. Do they make cpaps for pups?

    • Kelly, Mr. B. said that would be called a cpUp. *lol*
I’ll bet once you got used to him using it, after the initial, part it was great for you.

  10. Yeah, lack of sleep can do that to anyone…ruin their day. So sorry you have to deal with the sleep apnea. But, in typical Bernie fashion, you see the humor in situations like the power going off. Your story was so descriptive that I felt like I was right there. Great writing.
